So Solid Crew are set to reunite once again for the MOBO Awards following their recent return to the stage at London’s Indigo2. The grime collective – which includes members MC Harvey, Oxide and Neutrino, Lisa Maffia, Megaman and Asher D – will join the line-up at the star-studded bash, due to take place at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro on October 19.
They will be returning to the Mobo stage 13 years after picking up a trio of awards at the 2001 ceremony – where they also performed their most famous track 21 Seconds. So Solid went on to notch up a string of hits including They Don’t Know, Ride Wid Us, Broken Silence and Haters.
Although the band never officially split they faded after the 2003 album 2nd Verse, although were blighted by controversy after the arrest of some band members and reports of violent behaviour among fans at their gigs. Many members of the band went on to appear in reality TV shows such as Celebrity Big Brother and The Games in recent years, while Megaman was cleared of a murder conviction in 2006 after originally being found guilty of encouraging producer friend Carl Morgan to shoot a man dead in 2004.
They reunited for the London show in March this year, and are also set to play a string of dates across the UK in October, culminating in a show at the O2 Arena on November 14.
Wiley and Laura Mvula are among the front-runners at this year’s MOBO Awards, having notched up four nominations each – with Lianne La Havas, Jessie Ware and Jessie J also tipped for success.
Tinie Tempah, Iggy Azalea and Rudimental are also due to perform on the night.
