An award-winning music director, who fathered several children with his own biological daughters, was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
Aswad Ayinde, of Paterson, New Jersey, was sentenced on Friday after being found guilty in the second of five expected trials in which he is accused of repeatedly raping his six daughters, resulting in six children being fathered.
During his sentencing for his second conviction, Ayinde, who directed the Fugees 1996 hit song “Killing Me Softly,” tried to hide his face in a stack of legal papers, but the judge ordered him to remove them so he could face one of his daughter s who spoke at the sentencing.
“I can’t describe how much you hurt me and my sisters,” Ayinde’s daughter, now 35, said to her father who was shackled in a prison jumpsuit with his head bowed.
As the woman, who was repeatedly raped by her father from the age of eight, tried to describe to Ayinde the suffering he caused her and her sibling, Ayinde turned to her and said: “You should’ve told the truth instead of lying.”
Judge Raymond Reddin then interrupted Ayinde and told him that not only did he believe the evidence that were presented in his courtroom, but so did the 12 jurors who found him guilty.
During his trial, Ayinde’s ex-wife testified that he was trying to create a “pure family bloodline” by impregnating his daughters.
She said Ayinde abused his family for almost 30 years until she one day had the courage to leave him.
Friday’s sentencing was tacked on to the already 40 years that Ayinde received in a 2010 conviction of raping another daughter, who bored his fifth child.
He is facing three more trials for assaulting three more daughters.
Reports say in addition to the children that Ayinde had with his ex-wife and his children; he also has 12 other children with three different women.
