Over a weekend of high profile performances his was perhaps the most eagerly anticipated at this year’s Yahoo! Wireless Festival in London – and it didn’t disappoint.
Taking to the stage on Saturday evening, Jay-Z wowed expectant fans with a stellar show at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park venue, during which her performed tracks from new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail live for the first time.
Amongst those new tracks were Crown, Tom Ford, Somewhereinamerica and Picasso Baby – the track he recently performed at Chelsea’s Pace Art Gallery in New York City for more than six hours while he filmed its music video.
As well as fresh material, the 43-year-old rap veteran also ran through a series of old classics – amongst them 99 Problems, Jigga What Jigga Who, Empire State of Mind and Hard Knock Life – to an audience of more than 40,000 people.
Wearing a trademark gold chain over his short-sleeved white shirt, the 43-year-old rap veteran returned to the stage 24-hours after joining pal Justin Timberlake on stage for a duet of Suit & Tie – Timberlake’s lead single from comeback album The 20/20 Experience.
With that performance still fresh in the memory, the 32-year-old singer ensured the favour was returned by collaborating with Jay on Holy Grail – but it won’t be the last time they take to the stage this weekend.
The pair will be back on Sunday when they perform a full live set that will bring this year’s event – which has also seen performances from the likes of Rita Ora, Emeli Sande and Tinie Tempah – to a memorable close.
According to The Sun, Jay had an ‘unlimited’ rider during his two-day stint at the Yahoo! Wireless Festival, which reportedly included amongst its requests a private jet and five spacious suites at the capital’s Ritz and Savoy hotels for his entourage, as well as a generous supply of Rolex watches.
‘Jay’s rider was what’s known as an unlimited rider,’ a source explained. ‘The understanding amongst organisers was that anything he asked for was on there.’
The source added: ‘The Rolexes, jet and suites were what was expected from someone of his stature.’
The rapper has also emulated fellow headliner Timberlake by requesting popular chicken restaurant Nandos take care of his backstage catering.
The Mirrors singer is understood to have his own Nandos area in the venue’s VIP area, where he and his team have been devouring chicken wings and burgers.
